Most of us remember where we were and what we were doing on September 11th 2001. Some of us remember where we were when we learned of President John Kennedy’s death in Dallas. A few will remember when they learned of the attack on Pearl Harbor. But do you remember January 22nd, 1973? I was a student at the University of Kentucky and I assume a new semester had just begun. But the day passed without my paying attention to the US Supreme Court.
Something bigger than 911, JFK’s assassination or the onset of WW2 happened that day. The Roe vs Wade decision handed down by our Supreme Court would result in the legalized termination of 48 million American preborn citizens. Our nation’s mental health was affected as it has been by no other action. Our financial security suffered as 48 million lives were snuffed out of the work force. Future entrepreneurs were eliminated. Doctors, lawyers, preachers, farmers and factory workers prematurely stepped into eternity. Those who would now contribute to our social security never drew the first check.
What about the spiritual consequences? They are great and far reaching. We are far away from God and getting farther. Does God have a word for a church in the midst of such a culture? Indeed He does. I think Matthew 10:16 gives us some good instruction. We are sent into the world as sheep among wolves. It calls for us to be wise. It also is expected that we be harmless. It sounds like a strange strategy to win a lost world. We will talk about this very thing this morning and I believe you will see the relevance of our text.
Join us tonight as we look at the fellowship we have with Christ. We are partners with Him as we seek to take the gospel to the world. Be sure to come back this evening. Tonight is also the first night of this semester’s Master’s Classes. I am teaching a class for anyone considering joining Concord. I would love to have you but there are some other mighty good classes as well. Don’t miss out.
Your Servant in Christ,
Bro. Monte
