Dr. Monte Shinkle, Senior Pastor
Brother Monte has been Senior Pastor at Concord Baptist Church for over 20 years, during which time the church has experienced substantial growth in attendance and influence. He is known widely as an uncompromising biblical preacher with a ministry that extends beyond the local church through Take Heart radio and TV broadcasts. He is a frequent revival preacher. Monte is a graduate of University of Kentucky and has a Masters and Doctoral degree from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Monte and his wife Betty have four grown children and are spirited Kentucky Wildcat fans.
Rev. John Forsythe, Senior Associate Pastor
John Forsythe began serving at Concord in October of 2014. He and his wife, Annette, have three daughters, Abby, Molly and Hannah. John was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and attended Arizona State University, graduating with a degree in elementary education in teaching. He is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
While teaching middle school and after serving for two years in a West Phoenix church plant, John packed up the family and moved to Fort Worth Texas where he worked to complete his Master’s in Divinity and served as “Minister of Miscellaneous” in a local church. John, Annette and the girls came to Concord from a church in western Oklahoma where John served as pastor.
John’s prayer is that God would use him to help others along their spiritual journey into deeper faith and a strong relationship with Jesus Christ who has brought true life, abundant life and eternal life to those who would follow Him.

Brad joined the staff at Concord in March of 2017. Prior to joining Concord, he served four churches as minister of music and most recently served as Director of Worship studies at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Brad is a long-time member of the Missouri Music Men, and he has led or participated in mission trips to Nicaragua, El Salvador, Jordan, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Mexico, and Canada, along with multiple domestic trips.
Brad married Janis (Ostrom) Newbold in 1986 and is the proud dad of Seth (married to Melissa) and Sara DiRoberto (married to Taylor). He loves boating, spending time with family, traveling, and home remodeling. His proudest achievements are watching his children actively serve in their local churches and the individuals that he has mentored through the years.
Brad has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Religious Studies at Southwest Baptist University, a Master of Divinity with Biblical Languages at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and most recently, in December of 2016, a Master of Arts in Worship at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Brad loves to empower and equip others to do the work of ministry. One of his favorite verses related to worship is Psalm 34:3 “Glorify the Lord with me, let us exalt his name together.”
Rev. Chris Thomson, Director of Children’s Ministries
Chris Thomson came to Concord in March of 2013, along with his wife Michelle and their three kids, Michaela, Carter, and Madeline. Prior to coming to Concord, Chris served 14 years as the Student Pastor of Forest Park Baptist in Joplin, before serving for 5 years as Children’s Pastor and Single’s Pastor at Abundant Life Baptist in Lee’s Summit.
Chris’ heart’s desire is to see children develop a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and for parents to be equipped to help “train up a child in the way he should go,” so that the families of Concord are leaving a Godly legacy that will last for generations to come.
Our hope is that children and families are putting down “deep spiritual roots” that will stand and shine through the trials and tests of this life.
Rev. Jake Taggart, Director of Education
Jake Taggart joined the staff at Concord in August of 2013. He married his wife Tiffany (also from Jefferson City) in 2000, and they have three children: daughter Abrah, son Jonah, and son Jobe. Jake actually was a member of Concord as a young boy and serves as the staff’s “home grown” pastor.
Jake completed his undergraduate work at Lincoln University with a degree in Accounting and earned a Masters in Theological Studies from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to starting at Concord, Jake spent twelve years in the banking industry, and before that worked as a CPA and auditor. Jake’s vision for the education and discipleship ministry at Concord emanates from John 18:37: that people would become transformed by God’s absolute truth, and through bearing witness to His truth, help others to find their identity in the body of Christ.
Carrie and Brian obeyed God’s call to move to Jefferson City in 2016. Together they have four children and four grandchildren. It is their desire to be used by God to serve at Concord Baptist Church, Jefferson City Public Schools and in the community.
Carrie attended Fellowship Baptist Bible College and is currently working towards a Nouthetic Studies Certificate. Carrie is a retired homeschool mom of 24 years. She taught Home Economics and Art for the Homeschool Co-op for most of those years. Carrie has spent over 20 years serving in Women’s Ministry and has a passion to encourage women in their Christian walk. Isaiah 41:10 is her life’s verse.
